We in Germany

We in Germany The German Province is under the patronage of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia. On 19 November 1993, the two German provinces merged into one.

The Provincialate, the seat of the Provincial Superior Sr. Scholastika Kaiser is in Olpe. The provincial leadership still includes three council sisters who live and work in their convents. The German Province has no sponsorship over the social institutions that have been built up by us in the course of history.

They work in various social, charitable and pastoral tasks within institutions of the GFO, other sponsors and parishes. Sisters work as parish workers, nurses, educators, business administrators, etc.

The service in parish pastoral care, work with the homeless, child care, end-of-life care in hospitals and old people's homes is one side.

The other side is the manifold engagement in communion and confirmation preparation in parishes, the service as lectors and communion helpers, the visiting service for newcomers in parishes, engagement with the SKM, in hospice work, the service for mothers and children in GFO institutions, the guest care and spiritual accompaniment, in the host bakery, etc.

Already in 1902 Mother Maria Theresia Bonzel founded the "Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft der Franziskanerinnen zu Olpe" (GFO) for the charitable institutions and facilities, of which the Order was a shareholder. The personnel changes in the order and the resulting lack of sisters who could take over the management of the institutions led to the decision to organize the sponsorship differently. Therefore, on July 20, 1995, the "Maria Theresia Bonzel Foundation" was founded. As long as it is possible for us, sisters work in an advisory and decisive way in the foundation's board of directors and in the supervisory board of the GFO.

The GFO ensures the continuation of the work of the religious community in the spirit of Maria Theresia Bonzel, cares for children, families, the elderly and the sick and is responsible for the business administration of the areas.
