Cross meditation

Exhibition of crosses in the St. Martinus church in Olpe (May - June 2023)

Raimund Hellekes exhibits 15 crosses:

With the exhibition KREUZGANG, the viewer embarks, as it were, on the path of confrontation with the actually non-representable of the crucifixion of Jesus in its radical reality, connected with the salvation-historical significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus and the reflection of this experience by believers of different generations.

Raimung Hellekes, born in 1950, is a master carpenter and ran the family business in South Sauerland from 1976 - 2016, which is now managed by his son. For him, wood is a living material; he is passionate about tracing the stories that wood tells and would also like to share them with others.

How many push prayers were sent to heaven at them?

How many thanks, how many sorrows have they heard?

How firm stands the cross, sign of my faith?

How easily does it threaten to topple?

Who gives me support when I am in danger of losing sight of Him?

A sign of horror and hope at the same time the end of life and yet its wonderful new beginning erected in our lives task and goal sign of Your love the older we get, the clearer the form in our personal lives the brighter Your light shines just through this cross into our lives illuminates the way

The path to God:

The path is steep.

Many steps lead to the top,

Step by step we get higher.

Sometimes the path seems endlessly long and arduous,

Sometimes we stop to catch our breath.

Sometimes we look down to see how much we have already accomplished

- only to be surprised afterwards at how much is still missing.

On the way up it is easy to stumble,

on the way down, it's easy to fall;

getting up is laborious in both cases.

It requires strength and endurance

- and the unconditional will to get even higher.

The goal, however, is clear

- Christ awaits us with open arms.

He rewards us for all our efforts.

In His light we see the light.
